The UCSF Supervisory Certificate Program is a flexible, yet systematic program of learning to help UCSF supervisors clarify their roles and develop core supervisory competencies. Finish your certificate at your own pace.

Its primary objectives are to:

  1. orient participants to the supervisor’s role
  2. equip participants to manage employee performance and productivity
  3. equip participants to supervise within the law and union contracts
  4. promote collegial networking among university supervisors

Program Components

The UCSF Supervisory Certificate Program encourages developmental communication between the participant and his/her manager, and promotes transfer of learning to the job. It incorporates these components:

  1. Complete a simple competency self-assessment (Required)
  2. Customize a “transfer of learning plan” with electives and skill practice activities. (Required)
  3. Attend required courses and elective courses, and do your skill practice activities. (Required)
  4. Receive coaching and feedback from you manager or mentor (Highly recommended)
  5. Certify program completion to Human Resources Development & Training (Required)
  6. Certificate Award

Undertaking the UCSF Supervisory Certificate Program

No formal enrollment in the certificate program is required at this time. Simply download the forms, begin the program and complete it at your own pace. We recommend completing it within two years.

Each course can be completed as a stand-alone course and can be taken in any sequence. We recommend that you complete “Introduction to Management”, “Recruiting and Hiring”, and “Setting Performance Expectations” early in the program.
