Library Classes

The Kalmanovitz Library offers regular classes covering a wide range of information management skills. One-hour seminars called Updates provide overviews of online resources in specific fields and tips for using common tools.

INFORMATICS SEMINARS

  1. 2-hour classes featuring a hands-on computer lab format
  2. $40 for UCSF personnel and students
  3. Pre-registration is required.

How to Find Health Information in Print and Online

If you use the Library, either in-person or online, this class will help you become more proficient in getting your hands on the information you need. Understand how biomedical information is produced and disseminated; learn to select the appropriate source for the information you need; and become proficient in navigating the online systems that make up the UCSF Digital Library.

Introduction to EndNote for Windows

This class introduces EndNote?, a widely used citation management system. Hands-on exercises teach how to import citations from PubMed@UCSF, create personal databases, and format bibliographies. Advanced features, such as formatting citations in manuscripts, also are discussed. PC-based course; contact the Library to inquire about Mac classes.

Introduction to PubMed@UCSF

Learn to use the PubMed@UCSF interface to search the MEDLINE database. Library staff provide an overview of the PubMed system and demonstrate how to take advantage of special UCSF-enhanced features. Category 1 CME credit available. For CME information, contact Keir Reavie at 476-4519.

Consumer Health Information on the Web

Seven million people use the Internet each day to find health-related information. Learn tips for guiding the increasingly web-savvy patient toward reliable consumer health resources.

Database Spotlight: Business Sources

This class provides an overview of several databases that cover the "business" of health care, including company information, public policy, news, and legislative issues.

All About Online Journals

Learn how to access the electronic journals to which the Library subscribes. This class covers remote access issues, how to link to full text from PubMed@UCSF, and how to determine which journals are available at UCSF.

Grants Resources

Learn about major grant information sources provided by federal agencies and private foundations. Sources are discussed in health-related fields and information technology.

  2. Classes are open to all UCSF staff, faculty, and students.
  3. Informatics Seminars are $40 for UCSF personnel and students; Updates are free.
