New Hire Checklist: Recommended Actions
Before Hiring
(follows order in excel “Highly Recommended” checklist)
- Obtain department authorization to recruit and fill position

- Create or update MSP I-V/PSS job description (Description based on position to be filled)

- Create or update MSP VI-IX job description (Description based on position to be filled)

- Create or update staff job description (Description based on position to be filled)

- Complete Employee Requisition Form

- Review Preferential & Priority Reassignment candidates, if any

- Develop Standardized Interview Questions

- Arrange for interview space, contact applicants, schedule interviews

- Contact work references (at least 2 current or former supervisors)

- Confirm salary setting plans before offering the position (Salary based on position)

After Hiring

- Schedule New Employee for Benefits Orientation

- Request Computer Sign-on ID/email access

- Prepare new employee’s workstation, including computer, phone

- Order Business Cards and Nameplate

- Prepare parking permit information, if applicable

- Demographic Data (destroy after entering data in OLPPS) U5605
