Frequently Asked Questions and Feedback
Answers to questions about the UCSF Careers job applicant site
What is the difference between a requisition number that ends with "HS" and one that ends with "BR"?
On April 7, 2003, we upgraded our applicant tracking system. Requisitions that were created prior to that date end with "HS". Those requisitions that were created after that date will end with "BR". When searching by requisition number, please remember to include the appropriate 2 letter suffix in the search.
Do you recommend tailoring my resume and cover letter to each position that I am interested in, or do you recommend using a generic resume and cover letter?
Your resume will be looked at by many different people - often for varying types of jobs. We encourage you to create a generic cover letter and resume. Please make sure that the letter and resume will read well for any type of position that you apply to or are matched to by our recruiters.

How often do you update your position openings on your website?
Our positions are updated daily. Positions posted on the web are current and open.
What is the status of my application? I haven’t been called yet.
Once you complete the online application process, you will receive an email confirmation. Please print it for future reference. If there is a match between your qualifications and the positions for which you apply, your resume will be referred to the hiring department(s). Your resume may also be matched and referred to other positions.Hiring departments may contact you directly and schedule an interview if they consider you competitive after having reviewed your resume. We encourage you to apply for additional positions. Due to the large volume of resumes we receive, we are unable to provide information regarding the status of specific jobs.
I have submitted my resume electronically, but I would like to also mail a hard copy. Can you please provide me with an address?
We no longer accept hard copy resumes. If you are contacted for an interview you are welcome to provide an additional formatted resume to the hiring manager.
I am trying to apply for a job with the requisition number ICRL/5980BR. When I punch it in under the req. number for search criteria, the engine comes up with zero matches.
ICRL is an ad code that pertains to a craigslist posting. Please list the appropriate requisition number, in this case 5980BR, in the requisition number field and click submit.
What is "percentage" at the bottom of each job listing?
It refers to the percentage of time the position is. For example, 100% is 40 hours per week. 50% would be 20 hours per week, etc.
I am looking for faculty positions, and I am unable to find any openings, am I looking in the right place?
Please visit UCSF’s Academic Personnel site at http://acpers.ucsf.edu/.
What can I do to ensure all my applications to specific positions are stored in my Resume History?
History of candidate submissions are stored within the resume manager. When you apply if you have resumes saved, you have the option and should use the saved resume from the dropdown menu. If you choose to add the resume (cut and paste) there is no option to save and name it. You can only save and name a resume from the resume manager function. We only maintain history on resume manager submissions.
