Visiting Foreign Scholar Insurance & Repatriation Insurance
A plan is made available to the scholars through the University Brokers, Saylor & Hill Company in Oakland and the scholars enroll and make payment to their office.
Our brokers, Saylor & Hill Co., can help visiting scholars obtain short-term health insurance since they do not qualify for the regular Residents insurance plans. Interested foreign scholars are asked to contact Saylor & Hill directly and a plan will be tailored to meet their individual needs.

REPATRIATION / MEDICAL EVACUATION COVERAGE
All foreign scholars on J1 visas, non-immigrant status, are required by Federal law to obtain this insurance for themselves and their families. Proof of insurance must be maintained in the department’s file. Scholars sponsored by the Education Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) will have this insurance provided for them by that organization. Scholars on the UCSF institution J1 visas must provide you with proof of this insurance or purchase the coverage individually. The scholar is required to purchase insurance for the length of their J1 status and pay the necessary premium at that time. They must maintain this insurance for the duration of their appointment at UCSF.
