Labor and Employee Relations (LER) provides comprehensive professional services in the areas of Employee Relations and Labor Relations to a wide variety of campus clients. HR's Client Services Center provides each campus department with a dedicated team of HR professionals cross-trained in all aspects of human resources.

The Team
Guy Zuzovsky, Labor and Employee Relations Manager [+ -]
Guy Zuzovsky is the Manager of LER for the UCSF campus. Guy came to UCSF as Principal LER Analyst in 1999 and subsequently served as the Labor Relations Advocate for the UCSF Medical Center and Director of the School of Medicine's Office of Human Resources Services. Guy has been the Manager of LER since March 2006.

Mark Gottas, Labor/Employee Relations Coordinator [+ -]
Mark Gottas joined UCSF in 2000 when he began his career in human resources as an HR Analyst for the Temporary Employment Program (TEP). Since then, Mark has provided services to campus clients in a full complement of HR functions, including staffing, compensation, and labor and employee relations. This well-rounded background has served Mark well in his current role as HR Policy Coordinator for both UCSF and UCOP. Additionally, Mark represents the University as an advocate in labor relations arbitrations and administrative hearings. Mark holds a degree from Loyola Marymount University and has supplemented that background with coursework from the Labor Arbitration Institute and California Public Employers Labor Relations Association.
Kevin Liebig, L/R Administrative Analyst [+ -]
Kevin Liebig joined UCSF in 2007 as a Faculty Assistant in the Physiology Department. He joined Labor and Employee Relations in May 2009 as an Administrative Analyst where he provides administrative support on various projects. Kevin graduated from California State University, East Bay, with a degree in Business Administration, Human Resource Management, and Business Economics. He is an active member of both SHRM and NCHRA, where he holds the position of College Relations Chair for the Greater Tri-Valley Chapter of NCHRA.
Michael Lum, Principal Labor and Employee Relations Analyst [+ -]
Michael Lum provides analysis, consultation, and coaching in the areas of labor relations and human resources to managers, supervisors, and staff at UCSF and UCOP. Michael began his human resources career with the City of San Francisco serving as an HR Manager with several City departments, including Parking and Traffic, the MUNI, Recreation and Park, and the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission. In his current role, Michael offers support and services in areas regarding interpretation and application of personnel policies and collective bargaining agreements, performance management, discipline, dismissal, and legal compliance. Michael also represents management in sensitive, confidential, and complex labor and human resources matters.
Kathryn Mente, Labor Relations Advocate [+ -]
Kate Mente joined UCSF as a Labor Relations Advocate in January 2008. Prior to joining her colleagues in UCSF's LER unit, Kate practiced as a plaintiff's employment attorney following her graduation from University of San Francisco School of Law. Prior to attending law school, Kate worked in an HR capacity at Children's Hospital in Boston and Harvard University. Kate currently represents the University in arbitrations and hearings. She also advises departments on labor relations issues regarding represented employees and advises departments and non-represented employees on issues related to the PPSM and employment law.
Kelly Sheridan, Principal Labor and Employee Relations Analyst [+ -]
Kelly Sheridan has been a LER Analyst for UCSF for seven years. Prior to that, she worked at UCOP in the Office of Labor Relations for several years participating in system-wide negotiations with the unions. Kelly advises her clients on a wide variety of issues relating to University policies, collective bargaining agreements, grievances, layoffs, and performance management. Kelly's clients at UCSF include the Department of Medicine at Parnassus and San Francisco General Hospital, SFGH Clinical Laboratories, the Department of Laboratory Medicine, and the Office of Research.
Kristen Stewart, Principal Labor and Employee Relations Analyst [+ -]
Kristen Stewart joined UCSF as a Labor Relations Analyst in October 2006. Prior to joining her colleagues in UCSF's LER unit, Stewart worked in the private sector as an HR Director and Manager for 10 years. She has a B.A. in Organizational Communication with a minor in Human Resource Management from California State University, Chico. She also holds the professional designation of Professional in Human Resources (PHR) through the Human Resource Certification Institute and has been certified since June 2003. Stewart currently advises departments within the EVC and School of Medicine on labor and employee relations issues.

Jeanie Urban, Principal L/E Relations Analyst [+ -]
Jeanie Urban joined the UCSF Labor/Employee Relations team in November 2008 as a Principal Analyst. Jeanie's primary responsibility is to provide analysis, consultation, and coaching in the areas of Labor and Employee Relations to UCOP. Jeanie began her UC career in July 2006, and prior to UC worked for Pacific Bell and Travelers Insurance in various HR positions, including Labor Relations, Compensation and Workers' Compensation. Jeanie holds a B.A. degree from San Diego State University; a paralegal certificate from the University of San Diego; and a Master's degree from Golden Gate University in HR Management.
