Monitoring Worldwide Outbreak of H1N1 Flu
As everyone knows, H1N1 Flu is being closely monitored. Please refer to the UCSF Today website for the latest information on UCSF’s response to this public health situation.
The San Francisco Department of Public Health website is an excellent source of information about the flu and what to do prevent exposure.
In addition, read about general guidance that has been prepared to address common HR questions and answers in the event of pandemic flu or other hazard that might cause disruption at work.
Employee ID Lookup Feature on Learning Center Website, Removed
Some UCSF students work at UCSF and will be using the UC Learning Center. The ability to look up UCSF employee IDs potentially allows unauthorized individuals to access these students’ records, which would violate the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). Removing the employee ID lookup feature helps UCSF comply with FERPA.
Users who know their employee ID and/or provider number will be unaffected. Users who do not know their number will need to use alternative resources to look up their number. If you don’t know your employee ID or provider number, you can find it using the following resources:
- Employees: Your employee ID number can be found on your earnings statement (begins with 02). You can view your earnings statement online using the At Your Service website.
- UCSF Practitioners: Contact the Medical Staff Services office to obtain your provider number (885-7268).
- UCSF Residents and Fellows: Contact the Graduate Medical Education office to obtain your provider number (476-4562).
- Temps, consultants, contractors, vendors, etc.: Contact your manager or the UCSF Security Department to obtain your employee ID number.

Serving You: Labor & Employee Relations
Our “serving you” series reminds you and your staff about the comprehensive selection of services the Human Resources department provides to the University community. We want to keep you informed about the services we provide, as well as reacquaint you with the people who administer them. We encourage collaboration with your department and our office, and welcome the opportunity to meet with you and your staff at any time.
Featured this week:
Labor & Employee Relations: The role of Labor and Employee Relations (LER) is to balance the rights of all employees while ensuring that any action taken by the University is done in a consistent and equitable manner that mitigates potential liability. The LER unit serves to facilitate effective relationships between University management and staff through the provision of consultation and advice to managers and supervisors regarding policy and contract compliance, federal and state employment laws, and the performance management/corrective action process. LER is responsible for providing timely, accurate, and constructive advice to UCSF management and representing management in the grievance process, at arbitrations, in unfair practice cases, and in collective bargaining negotiations. In addition, LER manages the complaint resolution process for non-represented staff and serves as a resource for complex University investigations.
Read more about LER services and the people who provide them.
