Benefits Open Enrollment for Faculty and Staff 2007
When: November 1st - 21st
Open Enrollment provides eligible faculty and staff the opportunity to change enrollments in--or add eligible dependents to--their UC sponsored insurance plans: medical, dental, and optical; and/or to sign up for the first time or to continue participation in the Flexible Spending Accounts (Health Care and/or Dependent Care Reimbursement Accounts (HCRA/DCRA). Please note this year the November Open Enrollment season will be shorter than in previous years and will end on Tuesday November 21st. As prudent consumers, we hope you will take advantage of this Open Enrollment season by taking a look at your family’s overall health insurance needs, evaluating your options and making informed choices.
Starting in 2007, Health Care Reimbursement Account (HCRA) enrollees can use a ‘spending card’ to pay for eligible medical expenses at the point of service. The new HCRA spending card works like a debit card and will eliminate the need to payout of pocket first and request reimbursement later, for many expenses. For more information please go to http://atyourservice.ucop.edu/news/health/hcra_spending_card.html
An Open Enrollment Flyer from the University Office of President will be mailed to eligible Faculty and Staff in early November. We expect to provide more details on health plan changes (if any) and plan costs in the coming weeks!
Salary Increase for Research Support Unit (RX)
Effective October 1, 2006 all employees in the Research Support Unit (RX) and Technical Unit (TX) who hold positions in the bargaining unit on the effective date of the increase and at the time of payment will receive a 2.8% across the board salary increase. Examples of effected titles in these units include, but are not limited to: Staff Research Associates, Laboratory Assistants, Animal Technicians, Animal Health Technicians and Computer Resource Specialists.
If you have comments or questions regarding these units, contact Mark Gottas at (415) 514-2452 or via e-mail at .

Chancellor’s Awards 2006-07
Over the next several months, you will receive email requests for nominations for the following campus awards for 2006-07:
- Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Award

- Chancellor’s Award for Public Service
- Chancellor’s Award for Exceptional University Service*
- Chancellor’s Award for Exceptional University Management*
- Chancellor’s Award for Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Leadership
It is not too early for you to begin to consider which outstanding colleagues would be strong candidates for these awards. This “head’s up” is intended to give you sufficient time to think about potential nominees so that you can submit a letter of support, complete nomination materials, and obtain endorsements, when needed. Campus surveys have consistently reflected the pride that most UCSF employees take in this institution—as well as the importance of recognition for special efforts.
All award criteria are available on the Chancellor’s Office website. This year’s nomination forms will be available once the call for nominations is sent to the entire campus community.
*These awards recognize exceptional contributions by staff employees and managers; candidates may only be nominated by their supervisors.
