A Reminder from President Yudof to Vote on Nov. 4

Dear Colleagues:

As you well know, the November 4th election is less than a week away, and I want to take this opportunity to encourage you to exercise your right to vote as citizens of California. In accordance with UC Personnel Policy 46, a non-exempt employee shall be granted leave with pay, up to a maximum of two hours, for voting in a statewide primary or general election if the employee does not have time to vote outside of working hours. Any additional time off shall be without pay. Please notify your supervisor in advance if you need to take time off during work hours to vote.

As you are aware, in addition to electing the President and Vice President of the United States, there are a number of important issues on the November ballot, both local and statewide, and I encourage you to read the voter information pamphlets before voting in order to make an informed decision.

With best wishes, I am,

Sincerely,

Mark G. Yudof
President

Benefits Open Enrollment 2009 for Faculty & Staff

Make Informed Choices: Oct. 30 – Nov. 25

Open Enrollment 2009 for faculty and staff has officially started! And amazingly we have good news to share about the premium rates for 2009 – some employee medical plan costs will decrease from 2008 and others will increase modestly. Salary bands have been adjusted upwards.

Don’t miss this annual opportunity to make certain changes to your health and welfare plans and to enroll/re-enroll in the Health Care Flexible Spending Account (Health FSA) and the Dependent Care Spending Account (DepCare FSA). Empower yourself – read all the materials so that you can make “informed choices” on the benefits that cover yourself and your eligible family members.

Temporary Employment Orders Made Easy

The Temporary Employment Program (TEP) has just completed a pilot period of our new Administrative Assistant Job Matrix. The matrix is part of the TEP’s ongoing service-improvement program, initiated by your feedback on our Customer Satisfaction Surveys. The matrix was created to increase our efficiency in filling your requests for temporary help by defining the skills, knowledge, and educational requirements for our three most requested job titles, Administrative Assistant I, II, and III.

The matrix was created in collaboration with the HR Recruitment and Workforce Planning unit to ensure the quality of our temporary employees matched those required for career positions, since 46 percent of TEP employees are hired into career or limited positions each year. As a partner to the matrix, we’ve also created a Job Order Template to expedite ordering temporary help.

If you have any questions, contact Crystal Morris at or any member of the TEP staff at 476-4486.
