The University and CNA Reach Agreement on all Outstanding Issues in Re-opener Bargaining

As you know, a couple of weeks ago the University of California and the California Nurses Association (CNA) have reached a tentative agreement on the re-opener bargaining that started this past spring. The re-opener talks were limited to four items including: wages, health benefits, retiree health benefits and issues related to rest break periods.  We have received word from the Office of the President that the tentative agreement has been ratified by the CNA membership.  For UCSF, that means nurses in the bargaining unit will receive salary increases ranging from 3 – 6% (depending on classification) effective November 1, 2006 and another 3% in March, 2007.  UCSF is currently working with the Office of the President to implement the November 1, 2006 increases.

Additional highlights of the agreement include:

The agreement also includes CNA’s commitment to withdraw the pending Unfair Labor Practice charge filed with the Public Employment Relations Board. The current contract expires on June 30, 2007 and negotiations for a successor contract will begin in the spring.  If you have any questions related to the University’s negotiations with CNA and/or the recent agreement, please contact Kelly Sheridan at 415.514.2436 or
