2007 Contract with PacifiCare HMO Uncertain at this Time

UCSF, UCLA and UC San Diego have been negotiating a new contract with PacifiCare for the year beginning January 1, 2007.  Since PacifiCare is offered to our own employees, it is important for you to know that we have not yet reached agreement on a contract for 2007.  While we continue to negotiate with PacifiCare, the timing and outcome of these discussions are uncertain.

You should be aware that you can select your medical plan any time during open enrollment (Nov 1 - 21).  Only the last selection made during this period will be effective on January 1, 2007.

Please also note that if UCSF is unable to reach agreement with PacifiCare, we will provide PacificCare enrollees with advance notice and will offer them a special enrollment period during which they would be able to select a different medical plan such as Health Net to retain their primary care physician and access to UCSF Medical Center.  If you have questions about your health care coverage options, we encourage you to consult the information available at http://atyourservice.ucop.edu.

UAW Withdraws Petition to Represent Postdoctoral Scholars

On October 31, 2006, the United Auto Workers (UAW) officially withdrew the petition it filed on July 13, 2006 to represent postdoctoral scholars at the University of California.  This means that the UAW no longer seeks at this time to become the exclusive representative of the University’s postdoctoral scholars.

While we do not have additional details on these developments at this time, we will continue to monitor and communicate any significant developments on this issue to the campus.

In the meantime, if you have any specific questions or comments, you can contact Guy Zuzovsky, Manager of Labor & Employee Relations, at .

Online W-2 Statements

The University is implementing a new feature as part of the At Your Service On-line (AYSO) self-service web application which is available by clicking on the “Sign in to My Accounts” link at:

http://atyourservice.ucop.edu/

Employees will have the option of receiving their W-2 form electronically rather than receive a paper statement.  Employees who wish to receive their W-2 electronically will need to make a positive election following the instructions included in the AYSO application.  This election must be made before January 2, 2007.  Employees who wish to receive their W-2 on paper as in prior years will not need to take any action.

In January 2007, those employees making a positive election for on-line W-2s will receive an email notification announcing the availability of the Form W-2.  The employee can access the AYSO application, view and print their W-2 statement on-line.  The on-line W-2 will display the same information (and in the same format) as the current paper statements.

In addition, UCSF will be participating in sending their W-2 files to the University’s third party vendor, TALK, to allow employees to download their W-2 information into tax software products such as Turbo Tax.  If an employee does not want their data sent to the vendor, the employee will be able to block their record form being sent.  This feature will be also available through the AYSO application or by a paper form on the UCSF payroll website:

http://acctg.ucsf.edu/payroll/forms/index.htm.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Yvonne Deshayes, Payroll Manager at
or 415.476.3169.
