Benefits Open Enrollment 2010 Ends Nov. 24, 2009
Faculty and staff have until 5 p.m. on Tuesday, November 24 (Pacific Time), 2009 to make certain changes to their Health and Welfare plans, add eligible dependents, and/or enroll/re-enroll in the Health Flexible Spending Account (FSA) and Dependent Care Flexible Spending Account (FSA).
Please do not overlook this important mid-week/close of business day deadline and spread the word to your colleagues.
Open Enrollment (OE) ends at 5 p.m. (not midnight) on Tuesday, November 24.
Details about the FSA plans, medical plan rates, and Health and Welfare plan changes are available on At Your Service Online:
When you’re ready to make changes, log into At Your Service Online and select the Open Enrollment link. Be sure to CONFIRM ALL ACTIONS! OE actions will be effective as of January 1, 2010.
Temporary Closure of At Your Service Online Applications
At the end of every calendar year, two At Your Service Online (AYSO) applications must close down in order to allow UCOP and local payroll offices to complete year-end health and welfare changes. AYSO’s Benefits Enrollment (a.k.a. New Hire) and Current Enrollments applications will close at 5 p.m. on Friday, December 11, 2009. It’s anticipated that these two applications will re-open the morning of Wednesday, January 6, 2010. NOTE: All other AYSO applications will remain “up and running.”
Employees using Current Enrollments through December 11 will continue to see their 2009 Health & Welfare enrollments (Open Enrollment changes will not be reflected here). When they use the application in the new year, they will see their 2010 enrollments (including their Open Enrollment changes).
An employee with a PIE who does not complete his/her Benefits Enrollments by 5 p.m. on December 11 will need to complete them by paper. Please keep this deadline in mind as you work with new employees.
New Posting Requirement: Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act
The Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act (GINA) was signed by President George W. Bush on May 21, 2008 and goes into effect on November 21, 2009. GINA is designed to prohibit the improper use of genetic information in health insurance and employment. GINA prohibits group health plans and health insurers from denying coverage to a healthy individual or charging that person higher premiums based solely on a genetic predisposition to developing a disease in the future. The legislation also bars employers from using individuals’ genetic information when making hiring, firing, job placement, or promotion decisions. A revised “Equal Employment Opportunity is The Law” poster incorporating GINA language is required to be posted alongside other mandatory Federal and State labor law posters.
Links to the revised “Equal Employment Opportunity is The Law” poster are provided at the Office of the President’s Mandatory Employment Notices/Posters portal.
Please post the revised notice alongside other mandatory Federal and State labor law posters.
