UCSF 100% Smoke Free Nov. 20, 2008

UCSF is proud to join a growing number of 100 percent, smoke-free healthcare institutions across the country. Effective November 20 – National Smoke-Out Day – the designated smoking shelters at Parnassus and Mt. Zion will be removed and smoking will no longer be permitted on any property leased or owned by UCSF in accordance with policy.

Enforcement of the no-smoking policy continues to be the responsibility of managers and supervisors. Additionally, the Security units for both the Campus and Medical Center have agreed to assist in an education effort by distributing information cards to individuals who are observed violating the policy.

UCSF recognizes that the inability to smoke on campus will be difficult for some people. For this reason, UCSF is committed to offering the best tobacco treatment for patients and staff. UCSF has redesigned the in-patient tobacco treatment program and offers programs to help staff and visitors who smoke. Information and resources for staff are available on the Smoke-Free Workplace website.

Sponsor a Light & Support UCSF Children’s Hospital

Lights for this year’s Macy’s annual ceremony celebrating the lighting of an 80-foot Shasta Fir in Union Square – the traditional kick-off to the downtown holiday shopping season – are on sale with proceeds benefiting UCSF Children’s Hospital. The tree will be adorned with 21,000 twinkling energy-efficient LED lights and 1,500 red-and-gold ornaments.

The 19th Annual Macy’s Tree Lighting Ceremony will begin at 6 p.m. Friday, November 28, the day after Thanksgiving, but lights that benefit UCSF Children’s Hospital are on sale now. For the sixth year, Macy’s has made UCSF Children’s Hospital the beneficiary of its annual tree lighting. Barry Bonds is the honorary chair of the campaign, which will continue through December 24.

By sponsoring the 2008 Macy’s Tree Lighting Ceremony, you join a team of dedicated community sponsors who are committed to helping the children and families in our community who need our assistance. Over the last five years, we have raised more than $685,000 for the UCSF Children’s Hospital Palliative Care Program.

When you sponsor a light for $5, your tax-deductible donation goes toward enriching and expanding services at UCSF Children’s Hospital.

Tickets to sponsor the lights are accompanied by a souvenir illuminated 2008 UCSF Children’s Hospital reflector safety pin or an exclusive gourmet, Coco-Luxe, Tree Lighting chocolate bar, which make great gifts. Treat yourself or someone else to the wonderful taste of these exclusive chocolate bars or the fun, safety, and pride of an illuminated UCSF Children’s Hospital pin. They may be purchased:
