Additional Career Planning Workshops
More classes have been added at Parnassus, MCB, and Laurel Heights to meet the continuing demand. Visit the UC Learning Center and click Career Management under Featured Classes for Employees.
These workshops were developed to encourage and enable employees to take charge of their own careers. There are four modules, and they can each be taken independently. However, the fourth and last module requires that participants attend the first three. We also encourage employees to attend all the modules to gain the greatest benefit.
Module 1: Managing Change / Self Assessment
Module 2: Development Plan / Resume Writing
Module 3: Networking / Interviewing
Module 4: Resume Critique / Interview Practice (Prerequisite: Modules 1, 2 & 3)

The Interactive Process & Reasonable Accommodation Video
There is a new e-course on how to engage an employee with a disability in the interactive process available in the Learning Management System (LMS). The video was created by the Office of the President and is based on actual scenarios. The cases highlight how to approach these issues and ways to find a win-win solution. The video can be found in the Business and Operations section of the LMS catalog, under Administrative Policies and Practices. You will need to load QuickTime onto your computer to run the video, which is approximately 15-20 minutes in length.
Along with this, you can download the Managers Guide to the Interactive Process and Reasonable Accommodation.
Free! Making the Best Decisions with the Money You Save
Join the UCSF Chancellor’s Advisory Committee on the Status of Women and the Center for Gender Equity for the second session on financial management with Laurie Nardone, CFP, The Shira Group, Inc.
Date: Wednesday May 26, 2010
Time: 12:00-1:00 p.m.
Location: Room HSW 300 - Health Sciences West (see map)
Cost: Free and open to the public
Hope is not an investment strategy. This session will focus on how to effectively ‘navigate’ the volatile markets we are currently facing. What do we mean by bull and bear markets? What does asset allocation really mean (in other words, can you use that in a sentence?). What’s the difference between a mutual fund, a stock, and an ETF, and is one better than another? This session will help to provide perspective and a sense of what’s really going on. There will be no discussion of specific investments or recommendations.
Laurie Nardone, CFP, has been involved in the financial services industry since the late 1970’s. Beginning her career armed with her accounting degree, she spent nearly a decade in corporate finance, serving as the Controller of a publicly traded financial services company. Her 20 plus years in corporate management also included top-level positions in sales and marketing for various Bay Area financial services firms. In 2000, Ms. Nardone left her many years of corporate management to establish her own company, Private Wealth Management Advisory Group, Inc. (PWMA Group). After a life-altering excursion in 2005 to Africa to scale Mt. Kilimanjaro, Laurie came home with an expanded vision of her future and the future of the company, leading to the formation of Shira Ridge Wealth Management.
