Proposed Adjustment of Select MSP & PSS Salary Ranges Effective July 1, 2010
Campus Administrators, Managers, and Supervisors:
The UCSF Compensation Committee has endorsed and the Chancellor has approved a proposal to implement an increase of 6 percent to the salary range maximums for Management and Senior Professional (MSP) grades 1 through 5 and Professional and Support Staff (PSS) grades E through 6, effective July 1, 2010. UCSF MSP grades 6 and above are currently aligned with systemwide Senior Leadership Compensation Group (SLCG) grades, and there is no proposal for movement of those ranges at this time. This proposal impacts the described salary ranges only and has no direct impact on the salaries of individual employees.
The 6 percent salary range maximum movement is proposed to address the following issues:
- MSP and PSS salary ranges at UCSF have not been indexed since October of 2007. Between 2007 and 2009, major HR consulting firms report an average market range movement of roughly 6 percent.
- The current alignment of UCSF MSP grades 6 and above with SLCG grades results in a significant mid-point differential between our MSP grade 5 and MSP grade 6 mid-points. This range adjustment proposal will help to mitigate that differential.
- Movement of the salary range maximums provides greater flexibility and pay potential.
Any questions or comments should be directed to Susan Wright, Manager Compensation and Strategic Rewards, at by no later than June 30, 2010.
Mandatory Employment Notices & Posters
Federal and State Labor Law regulations require employers to post notice of labor laws in appropriate locations with general access for employees and/or applicants for employment. The At Your Service website includes an updated list of mandatory Federal and State labor laws that must be posted where employees can view them during the normal course of business. Please ensure that these notices are posted in areas used by employees, such as lobby areas, break rooms, and bulletin boards designated for this purpose. Failure to post this information may result in Federal or State penalties for non-compliance.
Below is a list of the updates. For additional information, please contact your assigned Labor and Employee Relations Analyst.
