Minimum Wage Posters
The Department of Labor has updated the federal minimum wage poster to reflect the increase to $5.85 per hour effective July 24, 2007. The current state minimum wage remains higher than the federal at $7.50 and will further increase to $8.00 effective January 1, 2008.
The legislation will continue to increase the federal minimum wage in stages over the next two years. Please replace any outdated federal minimum wage posters with the updated notice. A direct link to the updated poster is available at the Department of Labor’s website at:
http://www.dol.gov/esa/regs/compliance/posters/pdf/minwagebwP.pdf
For questions, please contact the Labor and Employee Relations Analyst assigned to your department.
Special Fee Reduction Program for Nursing Employees
The State of California continues to experience a severe shortage of qualified nurses in all health care settings, and the University of California medical centers continue to be greatly affected by the shortage. In 2003, in response to the critical need for more well-trained nursing staff, President Atkinson instituted a five-year exception to the reduced fee policy for nurses employed by the University of California who wish to complete their education. By this exception, career-status employees in nursing titles on the enclosed list were able to complete their graduate-level programs in a more timely fashion.
