60-day Delay in Implementing New I-9 Form for New Hires

Last week the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services announced a 60-day delay in implementing the new I-9 Form for the verification of employment eligibility for new hires. A revised version of the I-9 Form was to take effect on Monday, February 2, 2009, but a decision was made last Friday to delay implementation of the forms and their accompanying rules.

The delay is in response to a January memorandum from President Barack Obama’s chief of staff, Rahm Emanuel. In the memo, Emanuel directed all federal agencies to put a freeze on certain unimplemented federal regulations, recommending that the regulations be subject to a 60-day hold for further agency consideration.

The rules detailing the new I-9 process will now be on hold until April 3.

Sexual Harassment Prevention Training Coming February 10

An updated and improved version of the online Sexual Harassment Prevention training will be rolled out on February 10. The e-mail with an embedded link to the training will be sent only to supervisors who are new or have not taken the training for 2 years as required by State Law AB1825.

This year, the training will be hosted on the new system-wide learning management system that will allow managers to check directly on the status of their employee’s training if their employees have identified them as their manager. Log into the UCSF Learning Center and be sure to read the QuickStart Guide and Manager and Enroller Guide for specific instructions on viewing your staff’s current registrations and training status.
