UCSF Medical Center and PacifiCare Continue Negotiations
UCSF and PacifiCare continue to negotiate on a new contract so that UCSF employees and their family members covered by PacifiCare may continue to have access to patient care services at UCSF Medical Center. We hope to confirm a final agreement soon.
UC Retirement Plan (UCRP) and UC Retirement Savings Education Programs
The year is just almost over and there are no more scheduled workshops during 2006.
2007 brings new retirement and savings workshops for you to enjoy. As soon as the dates are finalized and the new schedules are posted we will alert you in hopes that you will spread the word to your colleagues and friends. We anticipate that the new schedules for 2007 will become available mid-January. These schedules will be located at our local UCSF HR/Benefits website on the Workshops and Presentations Menu.
Here are a few things for you to consider that might help you decide to make it your New Year’s Resolution to put retirement/savings education on your priority list for 2007:
- These workshops are FREE!
- The workshops are informative and pertain to UC-specific retirement plans and savings programs.
- The workshops are presented at various San Francisco campus locations to make attendance easy and convenient.
- You can learn how to properly utilize powerful planning tools that the University of California and FITSCo provide that will enable you to realize a secure and enjoyable lifestyle in retirement that you hear about and hope for:

- Access UCRP estimates (review your personal data elements)
- View UCRP/CAP account balances
- Confirm/update your beneficiary designations
- Visit your UC Retirement Savings Program accounts at FITSCo:

- Access your 403(b), 457(b), and DC Plan accounts
- Check out the powerful planning tools
- Learn how to invest your savings wisely

- FUND ACCOUNTING & GENERAL LEDGER BASICS
Learn the relationship between basic higher education fund accounting principles and your daily accounting operations. Identify the major fund groups and financial statements used by higher education, and learn about the University’s chart of accounts, including Fund, DPA, and NCA. Follow the flow of transactions through your department and track journal entries recording these transactions. Read the revenue, expense, and unexpended balance ledgers. Analyze the general ledger in preparation for fiscal closing.
