At Your Service Online (AYSO) Closure
At the end of every calendar year, UCOP closes two ‘At Your Service Online’ (AYSO) applications to allow the Office of the President and local payroll offices to complete year-end health and welfare changes.
AYSO’s Benefits Enrollment (aka New Hire) and Current Enrollments applications will close at 5 p.m. on Fri., Dec 10, 2010. The re-open is planned for Wed., Jan. 5, 2011.
Open Enrollment changes will not be viewable until this time. An employee with a Period of Initial Eligibility (PIE) during this closure must submit a UPAY 850 form (and UPAY 919 if applicable) to payroll to enroll in benefits.
Reminder: Ethical Values & Conduct Training
The University of California, Office of the President (UCOP) is requiring all campuses to implement an ethics training program for all employees.
This training program is designed to:
Please note that by December 31, 2010, all employees must take one of the following training briefings: UC Ethical Values and Conduct and Conflicts of Interest for Researchers or Compliance Briefing: UC Ethical Values and Conduct.
The first training, UC Ethical Values and Conduct and Conflicts of Interest for Researchers, intended for campus employees who conduct research, was rolled out in October 2009. UCOP rolled out the second training, Compliance Briefing: UC Ethical Values and Conduct, intended for all non-research staff, on Feb. 17.
Employees who have taken the first mandatory training class do not need to take the second one.
All employees who have a UCSF email account were sent the required training link. However, managers and supervisor with staff who do not have an email account, should use UCOP’s course materials which are available at http://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/compaudit/ to provide the training at staff meetings.

Reminder: Privacy and Information Security Training
This on-line 20 minute training focuses on UCSF’s commitment in protecting confidential information related to our workforce, patients and the services we provide. This is required training for every member of UCSF Medical Center and some Campus and School of Medicine departments who may use, see or otherwise come into contact with Protected Health Information (PHI) and includes faculty, staff, residents, fellows, students and volunteers . Please contact your department manager if you have questions. The deadline for completion of this training is December 31, 2010.

Supervisory Certificate Program
The UCSF Supervisory Certificate Program is a flexible, performance skills based program of learning designed to provide UCSF supervisors and supervisor aspirants with an opportunity to develop supervisory competencies. Participants can complete the supervisor certificate at their own pace and register to begin the program at any time.

Introduction to Management (online)
This introductory course helps new supervisors redefine their roles from individual contributor/technical expert to that of supervisor. It outlines the scope of the supervisor’s role and responsibilities within UCSF.
Recruiting and Hiring (12/14/2010 & 2/16/2011)
This course help managers hire the best people for the job and to do so while managing the legal risk associated with employment discrimination.
Setting Performance Expectations (1/5/2011 & 4/13/2011)
In this course, participants learn how to work individually or collaboratively with staff to identify meaningful performance expectations and communicate them.
Coaching for Improved Performance (2/2/2011 & 5/11/2011)
In this session, participants learn how to recognize and assess performance issues and practice coaching communication skills to support employee performance improvement and development.
Conducting Performance Appraisals (3/2/2011 & 6/15/2011)
In this course, participants learn how to work with their staff to reflect on progress, to examine objective and standards of performance and set goals for performance and development.
Delegating for Success and Accountability (3/16/2011 & 6/29/2011)
In this session, participants practice a structured approach to delegation and the communication skills needs to transfer work and to build agreement.
Supervising According to Union Contract and PPSM (1/18/2011 & 4/21/2011)
In facilitated discussions and using practice vignettes, this course, equips supervisors with understandings and skills needed to exercise their management rights, to administer union contracts, and to address issues legally and effectively.
EEO Law and Sexual Harassment Prevention for Supervisors (3/3/2011 & 5/17/2011)
This course is designed to provide participants with an overview of equal employment opportunity and nondiscrimination policy. This course also include required content mandatory for AB1825 compliance for sexual harassment prevention.
Empowering the Supervisor (3/24/2010 & 6/30/2011)
This course helps participants learn how to appropriately manage authority to maintain or regain control of situations involving an employee’s non- compliance or insubordination.

UCSF/SFGH Stop Smoking is a new iPhone application available for smokers wanting to quit. It is available through the iTunes App Store http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/ucsf-sfgh-stop-smoking/id393637213?mt=8 for $4.99.
Beginning Monday December 13, 2010, Living Well at UCSF will reimburse the first 100 individuals with a valid UCSF ID who download this app with a $5.00 gift card for either Starbucks or Bear Hugs.
For individuals who do not have an iPhone there is an online version in both English and Spanish.
