Implementation of Targeted Clerical (CX) Wage Increases
As you may be aware, the University reached an agreement with CUE regarding wage increases for lower paid employees. Per the terms of that agreement, effective April 1, 2007, employees represented by CUE who earn less than $40,000 a year will receive salary increases as described below:
- An employee in a title with a weighted average salary of less than $30,000 a year would receive a 1.5% salary increase;
- An employee in a title with a weighted average salary of more than $30,000 but less than $32,000 a year would receive a 1% salary increase;
- An employee in a title with a weighted average salary of more than $32,000 but less than $40,000 a year would receive a 0.75% salary increase.
To determine which CX employees are eligible to receive a salary increase, the salaries of every employee within a CX title were averaged to calculate the average pay for that title. If the average pay for a title falls below one of the thresholds outlined above, every employee within that title will receive the described increase regardless of where that employee’s individual salary falls with respect to the threshold.
At UCSF, the affected titles and salary increases are as follows:
4673 - Clerk - 1.5%
4108 - Child Development Center Assistant - 1.5%
4683 - Clerk, Typist (B) Senior - 1.5%
4672 - Clerk, Senior - 1.5%
6762 - Library Assistant I - 1.0%
4107 - Child Development Center Teacher I - 1.0%
4723 - (____) Assistant II - 0.75%
4724 - (____) Assistant I - 0.75%
6760 - Library Assistant III - 0.75%
6761 - Library Assistant II - 0.75%
7232 - Survey Worker, Senior - 0.75%
The salary ranges for each of these titles as well as the individual salaries for each employee in these titles will be adjusted by the amount of the respective negotiated pay increase. The salary adjustments will be implemented in the EDB this evening with an effective date of 4/1/07 for monthly paid employees and 3/25/07 for bi-weekly paid employees. There is no action required on the part of departmental payroll administrators to implement these increases. Please feel free to direct questions to Pat Coleman in Human Resources at .
New Employment Elements Authority Matrix
Last week we launched a web-based offer letter system to assist with the preparation of letters documenting offers of employment and their associated compensation packages. Within the “help” section of that tool are keys to systemwide and local policies that address the types of compensation components that are allowable within policy.
To provide easy access to this policy information, we have developed and published an Employment Elements Authority Matrix. The matrix is located on the UCSF Campus Human Resources website and provides an easy to use reference guide to determine which elements of compensation can be offered to employees in the various staff employment programs at UCSF. The matrix also provides information on when you should seek advice and authorization from Human Resources before conveying an offer of certain compensation elements. The matrix is designed to be used in conjunction with the new offer letter system to ensure consistency and compliance with University and local policy when conveying offers of employment and compensation at UCSF. In addition to using these new tools please feel free to continue to consult with your Staffing and Compensation Analyst in Human Resources when questions arise regarding the development of employment and compensation packages.
