Human Resources Announcement
AVC of Human Resources David Odato is delighted to announce the appointment of Cluster Directors and Specialty Center Directors for the new Academic Personnel and Human Resources integrated service delivery unit. Through a careful selection process involving broad representation from all schools and control points, seven outstanding professionals have been selected to be part of the leadership team.
Cluster Directors:
- Cluster A - Susan Sall, currently Manager, Department of Ophthalmology
Cluster B - Jenny Schreiber, currently Director of HR, Department of Medicine
Cluster C - Jason Stout, currently Manager, FAS HR Service Center
Cluster D - Barbara Harkonen, currently HR Manager, EVCP Center of Excellence
Cluster E - Esther Carter, currently HR Manager, Department of Surgery
Specialty Center Directors:
- Assistant Vice-Provost, Academic Affairs: Cynthia Lynch Leathers
Human Resources Specialty Center Director: Mike Tyburski
Each of these individuals has significant UCSF experience, and all have demonstrated leadership acumen throughout their careers. You may read David’s announcement here.
Upcoming Supervisory Certificate Courses
Upcoming Supervisory Certificate Courses
Anyone interested in learning and practicing the skills required to be an effective supervisor is welcome at one these upcoming classes. These courses will also count as credit for those interested in getting their UCSF Supervisory Certificate.
Setting Performance Expectations:
July 6, 2011
8:00am -12:00pm
In this course, participants learn how to work individually or collaboratively with staff to identify meaningful performance expectations and to communicate them.
Coaching for Improved Performance:
July 20, 2011
8:00am-12:00pm
In this course, you will learn to recognize and assess performance issues, and you will practice coaching communication skills to support employee performance improvement and development.

$55.00 per class

Influencing Without Authority Class is Back by Popular Demand
-Friday, July 15th, 8am to 12 noon – Laurel Heights Regents Room
-Cost: $150.00
Raj Kapur of the Center for Project Management earned rave reviews in May for his inaugural offering of this class. Comments were:

Effectively exercising influence even when you may not have the formal authority to mandate action is a challenge many face. This course will develop your capability to assess and increase your influential power to accomplish your objectives.
Successful professionals build networks of relationships with stakeholders and influencers; this course introduces the skills necessary to employ these interpersonal and leadership skills putting you in a position to manage the often complex relationship dynamics of the workplace.

Problem Solving and Decision Making Class Offered

The power to find creative solutions to problems lies in your ability to fully understand the facts that surround a situation, view the situation from multiple perspectives, and put that information together in ways that work.
This is another outstanding workshop presented by Raj Kapur of The Center for Project Management.
