New UCSF Policy on Influenza Vaccination

UCSF has a new policy on influenza vaccination. The California Health and Safety Code Section 1288.5, Article 3.5 has required acute care hospitals to offer influenza vaccine to staff, to document declination of vaccination, and to report compliance for the past two years. Given this requirement and in order to protect our staff and patients, particularly during an influenza season that has the potential to be severe, we are instituting a new influenza policy.

The policy will require that all Medical Center staff be vaccinated for seasonal and H1N1 influenza, provide evidence of vaccination from outside UCSF, or decline vaccination in writing. Staff who decline vaccination will be required to wear UCSF-provided paper exam masks at all times when in patient care or clinical areas for the duration of the influenza season.

This policy covers all UCSF Medical Center employees, faculty, temporary workers, trainees, volunteers, students, and vendors, regardless of employer. This also includes any UCSF non-Medical Center staff member who provides services to or works in UCSF Medical Center patient care or clinical areas.

UC Retirement Readiness Education Programs

Please pass this on to your colleagues, circulate invitations, post the actual scheduled workshops happening near your location, or otherwise re-broadcast these weekly reminders about our valuable (FREE) education programs for faculty and staff. Bring your lunch; your questions; your spouse/partner.

The new schedule for the fourth quarter of Retirement Readiness Workshops—October through December—is now being drafted. We expect that it will be posted during the next several weeks, early October. Stay tuned to our Retirement Readiness listings—click here

In the meantime, why not make arrangements to have a workshop presented at your location during one of your faculty/staff meetings.
