Over the past few years, medical provider disruptions and service area changes have alerted UC employees and annuitants to the impact of the health care crisis in the United States
What can you do??????
If you are enrolled in a UC HMO plan and are faced with a medical provider disruption, you should do the following:
- Call the plan to find out what the change is and when it will go into effect. Also, ask the plan what your options are, should your provider or medical group no longer contract with the plan.
- Call your provider and ask if he/she has a contract with another medical group in your service area. If they do and you would like to stay with your current provider, contact your plan to request a change in medical group. http://atyourservice.ucop.edu/directories_contacts/medical_plan.html
If you are enrolled in a UC HMO and are faced with a service area pull out, you should do the following:
- Call the plan to find out when the change will take effect and watch for notices in the mail.
- If the disruption affects many UC employees you may have additional options. Look for information on the HCF website and/or contact your Health Care Facilitator to find out what alternatives are available to you.
