School of Medicine Health Sciences Compensation Plan Insurance Information
While most UC-sponsored health and welfare and retirement programs are the same for faculty as they are for staff, there are also insurance programs related to Health Sciences Compensation (HSC) plans that are specifically for eligible faculty members.
School of Medicine Faculty members who participate in a Health Sciences Compensation (HSC) Plan may be eligible for coverage under the HSC insurance programs. These plans cover a component of salary (i.e., “HSC” and “BYC"), which is not considered “covered compensation” for purposes of the University of California Retirement Plans and Health and Welfare Programs.

Many UC employees regard the 403(b) Plan as the best savings and investment opportunity that UC offers. If you choose to participate, you receive immediate tax benefits (contributions are deducted from your gross pay before taxes are figured) and you can look forward to potentially rewarding long-term returns through tax-deferred compounded earnings.
